Castle Rock, Oregon, 1959. Gordie Lachance, Chris Chambers, Teddy Duchamp and Vern Tessio set out along the rails with bedrolls and a canteen to find the body of a missing boy, hoping to come home famous. What they find on the two-day walk is a train on a trestle, a leech-filled pond, a night around a fire, and the things they can only say to each other. Rob Reiner's 1986 film, from Stephen King's novella The Body, ends on the line every viewer keeps: no one ever has friends later on like the ones they had at twelve.
