Trapped on Crete, Daedalus looked upward and found the one road the king had not closed. He built wings from feathers, thread and wax, then warned his son to fly between the sea and the sun. Icarus rose—not only from pride, but from delight in the impossible. The wax softened, the feathers scattered and the sea took his name. Yet the story begins with invention, freedom and one astonishing morning above the world.

The artwork
