The Face of Another T-Shirt | Existential Literary Graphic Tee

Exhibit Notes

An existential literary graphic tee for anyone who has wondered how much of a self is held in a face.

Inspired by Kobo Abe's The Face of Another, the story follows a man disfigured in an accident who retreats behind bandages and begins to read every glance as rejection. A lifelike mask gives him a new face—and with it, anonymity, access and dangerous permission. The world treats him differently, but the mask cannot free him from the suspicions he carries inside. The result is psychological fiction at its most unsettling: a study of identity, desire, shame and the social contract written on the human face.

The artwork

A suited figure with a blank, bandaged head stares forward above the question What if I could have another face? The minimal black-and-cream composition feels like a lost surrealist film poster: spare, uncanny and quietly confrontational. It is a Japanese literature shirt and philosophical graphic tee designed to invite a second look.

The design begins with a story — read the full Face of Another story in the SepiaLore Journal.
